Behind-the-Scene Look at a Mongoose Storyboard
Myles was cleaning and ran across this rough draft of the Halloween 2012 Mongoose comic strip. Instead of tossing it out, he figured he’d snap a pic and share it with everyone. After all, who doesn’t like a nice “behind the scenes” event once in a while?
Sometimes the strips are actual conversations the creators have had, sometimes they are holiday or event specific and sometimes they are just random acts of hilarity. They can be either’s concept or a collaboration. They don’t always have a storyboard on paper. Sometimes the comic starts as a discussion of what Myles and Richard want. Sometimes one of them has only a rough concept.
Myles drew the storyboard for the Halloween 2012 strip with a basic panel layout and a several generalized storyline ideas and a couple of thoughts for the speech bubbles. When the storyboard or basic idea is complete, Richard works his magic and creates the digital wonder that appears in the blog for all to see. As you can tell from comparing the storyboard to the final published version, there are some changes to the character positioning and even some of the wording has changed.
The Snowboarders
Myles is the comedian. Richard is the artist. Mongoose started as stick figure drawings in a sketchpad back in Oklahoma while hanging out with friends. Drinking beer in the garage. You know, the way all great things start. Years later, and a degree or three, they have finally made their way to a fully illustrated, full color comic strip.
This came from a conversation from Myles and Richard. Here’s the photo that started it.
Enjoy!
